3D PROTOTYPING · LUXEMBOURG

3D prototyping & design

Are you starting with an idea, sketch, photograph or dimensions, but do not yet have a usable 3D model? PowerPrint begins by defining the function, context of use and available information. The request may then lead to modelling, a prototype and, only if the result and feasibility allow it, assessment of a small run.

HAVE YOU ALREADY DEFINED YOUR REQUIREMENT?

Describe the proposed object or part, its function, context of use, known dimensions, contact or fixing areas and any constraints already identified. Add your sketches, photographs or references, as well as the proposed quantity and preferred date.

Request an assessment

The scope of the modelling and prototype is specified before any work begins.

NEED GUIDANCE?

ARE YOU STARTING WITH AN IDEA, SKETCH OR PHOTOGRAPH?

Explain the problem to solve, the expected use and what you already know, even approximately. We will examine the available materials to identify missing information and define the next stage before any modelling begins.

Have my idea scoped

You do not need a 3D file or final specification to request initial scoping.

DEFINE THE REQUIREMENT BEFORE MODELLING

A shape cannot be assessed independently of its function. The intended use, environment, available space, contact areas, fixings and neighbouring elements help explain what the project must achieve. A sketch, photograph or a few dimensions can provide a starting point, but they do not replace the measurements and information required for the next stages.

Scoping therefore distinguishes information that is already reliable, assumptions to be checked and choices that remain open. The modelling scope, materials expected from the customer and objective of the prototype are specified before the next stage begins.

PROGRESS IN STAGES TOWARDS THE PROTOTYPE

Once the requirement has been defined, modelling can be assessed using the selected information. Before a prototype is made, the version concerned, stated dimensions and points to observe must be clearly identified. The prototype can then be used to examine the shape and assembly against the intended use, within the limits defined for the project.

Feedback from this stage may lead to adjustments, whose scope, lead time and cost are specified before any further work. A small run can be considered only after a version has been approved and feasibility checked again; it is never an automatic consequence of the prototype.

Your questions — 3D prototyping & design

Do I need an existing 3D file to request an assessment?

No. A clearly explained idea, sketch, photograph or dimensions may be enough to begin the assessment. These materials help us understand the requirement; further information may be needed before modelling or a prototype can be defined.

How does this differ from custom 3D printing?

Custom 3D printing primarily covers production from an already defined digital model. This page is for requests that still require scoping, creation or adaptation of the model before a prototype can be considered. The workshop confirms the appropriate route after examining the supplied materials.

What information should I provide to get started?

Describe the required function, context of use, known dimensions, available space, contact or fixing areas and any constraints already identified. Add available sketches, photographs or references, as well as the proposed quantity and preferred date. A photograph alone cannot reliably establish every dimension.

What does scoping before modelling include?

Scoping defines the objective, available information, unknowns, scope of work and the prototype's intended role. The work to be carried out and any further materials required are defined before modelling. This scoping is neither engineering approval nor confirmation that the part is suitable for its final use.

Can the prototype be modified after an initial test?

Adjustments can be assessed based on observations made from the prototype. Each change may alter the scope, schedule and cost; these implications are specified before a new stage. No number of iterations is assumed without explicit agreement.

Can you produce a small run after the prototype?

A small run can be assessed after a project version has been approved and feasibility checked again. The quantity, file version, intended use and lead time are then reassessed. Producing a prototype does not automatically guarantee production of several copies.

What lead time should I allow for a 3D design project?

The usual lead time of 10 to 14 days applies to a clearly defined stage once its scope has been approved and the required materials received. A complete project involving modelling, a prototype, feedback and adjustments may require several stages and a suitable schedule, confirmed before each one. A 24 h or 72 h express option can be considered only for a defined stage, subject to feasibility, the requirement's complexity and the state of the supplied information.

Is a photograph, AI-generated image or object enough to recreate a part in 3D?

Not without further information. These references may illustrate the intention, but they do not automatically provide the complete geometry, reliable dimensions or hidden faces. No 3D scanning or reverse-engineering work should be assumed. The workshop examines the starting point and specifies what can be assessed using the available materials. You must hold the necessary rights to use the supplied references; the nature of the deliverable files and their conditions of use must be specified in the quote.
